Royal Mail - Chairman's Diversity & Inclusion Awards

The Brief

The aim of the event is to recognise and celebrate the positive changing attitudes within the workplace across key issues including racial discrimination, bullying and the active inclusion of disabled people, women and ethnic minorities across the business.

The Solution

Held at the stunning Alexandra Palace in London, the event played host to one thousand Royal Mail employees from across the country. The guests were greeted with a red carpet entrance and faux-paparazzi, then treated to a well-deserved fruit punch and canapé reception where the Palm Court lent itself wonderfully to a Caribbean theme complete with 8 piece steel band.

Making their way into the West Hall the guests indulged in a bespoke tropical inspired menu designed for all tastes. The entertainment began with a stunningly colourful 50 piece Rio/Notting Hill Carnival style parade, followed by the awards hosted by Royal Mail CEO Alan Leighton. Each award was accompanied by video case studies which were pre shot on location and edited by Sledge to highlight the winners of the 4 categories. Paralympics gold medal winner Ade Adeptian and star of the BBC channel idents gave a moving and motivational speech and the day was rounded off with the audience voting for the people’s choice winner and a closing video montage edited live on site to summarise the days high points.

The Results

Following the impact of last years event, the message of diversity and inclusion has spread successfully throughout the Royal Mails 190,000 employees, generating three times as many entries compared to last years awards. The event was truly a great success and a great day out; it plays a pivotal role in generating awareness and changing opinions within the Royal Mail workplace. Plans are already afoot for an even bigger and better event for the awards ceremony in 2007.
