Pre-holiday period planning: it’s a must for sustainability progress

While maintaining a work-life balance is important for us all, what do we do during key holiday periods such as the summer or festive season, when many employees are off at the same time?

Organisation is a must here, stresses Sledge’s Operations Director & Sustainability Lead, Laura Chalcraft, or else project planning can taper off, and once everyone is back on deck, there’s a sense of stress and urgency, which means sustainability can become an afterthought.

Laura recently delved into this notion with M&IT Magazine, where takeaways include:

  • We should be resourcing before and during major holiday periods, so event planning continues, and sustainability isn’t placed in the “too hard” basket.
  • The importance of embedding sustainability throughout the event design, and considerations for achieving this.
  • The value of gathering project and sustainability insights at the same time – as in, well ahead of the go-live day – so there’s seamless alignment.
  • How measurement tools can not only help us mitigate impact before, but during an event, and the power of creative sustainability communications at the debrief stage.

In Laura’s words: “The race to net zero, the climate emergency… It doesn’t stop or slow down because we do,” and you can read the complete article here.
