Why the event industry needs to collaborate more
Sledge MD, Sarah Yeats has penned a piece for micebook which explores the ways the event industry can be more collaborative.
You can read Sarah’s key points below.
We’re stronger together
We might deliver events for different clients and their respective industries, specialise in corporate, incentive, or experiential events, or work agency or client-side, but we’re all united in our passion for, and expertise in events. Importantly, we can all learn from each other, so it’s essential we collaborate with our industry colleagues and peers.
Adopt a tiered approach to industry-wide initiatives
The initiatives led by some of the larger agencies in our space that are designed to propel the sector forward are great. Could we make them more collaborative, though, by inviting agencies and internal event teams of all sizes, locations and specialisms to get involved, and create time and investment contribution tiers based on an agency’s size or capacity to get involved?
Develop inclusive formalised programmes and frameworks, and more of them
There are many similar initiatives and events circulating within the industry, so why not join forces on them, or get all facets of the sector involved? From sustainability to recruitment and retaining talent, industry-wide recognition can lead to government endorsement, allow students to gain varied exposure to the event industry, and provide employees with opportunities to continuously up skill.
Host and engage in networking, mentoring and open forums
From hosting a coffee catch up with a school or university aged student who is interested in events to joining regular industry focused discussion sessions, there’s immense value in dedicating even half an hour per week to connecting with or furthering the sector.
